Wowzers, what an amazing 24 hours! Our first reviews are going up, we've been smearing codes all over various sexy people all over the place, we're starting to see good ratings numbers on the dashboard, and we're almost at the weekend, where we expect to make a reasonable number of downloads. Plus, we've already started actioning user feedback - we're currently adding an in-game Y-Axis invert, disabling missile controls until you reach the "missiles" part of the freespace tutorial, spreading the little dot particles out a bit to make motion more apparent, and fixing a dodgy music track. DrMistry never sleeps!
It's really struck us how different this release was compared to Carrum, our first game. Carrum pretty much just came and went with out anyone much downloading it (even though out convertion rate is above 7% - pretty good and most web games would kill for a convertion rate like that) but the big difference is that we just didn't tell anyone about Carrum. For Space Pirates we started yelling more than a month ago - which has been very hard work. I know more or less nothing about marketing and PR, but I'm not too bad at being polite and showing off so that's basically what I've been doing! I've even gone so far as to send MrPointyHead (from the Xbox LIVE UK editorial team) and Major Nelson (Major Nelson) codes for the game. Dunno if Larry got his code, but I know MrPointyHead did, so maybe we'll see if he likes it. I'm far too much of an egotist to agree that any publicity is good publicity, but I guess it is kind of true - people need to know about the game in order to want to buy it, and presence is everthing. For now we're on New Releases, and if (please please pretty please) all the good folk rate the game when they play it, we might just squeak on to the Top Rated list. We won't know about download numbers until tomorrow at the soonest, but I can tell you we're waiting the baited breath! I wish I know where that saying came from and what it really means though - should I have a fishing line tied to my tongue?
We've got a longstanding dinner party this evening, so we'll be running another 5-code giveaway on Saturday from 6pm GMT (after most of the football). Make sure to download the demo from Marketplace, and again it'll be a matter of answering a question via email. This time we're going to have a set amount of time for the compo (up to midnight GMT) and picking the 5 lucky winners at random. We're also considering doing some Q&A videos so we can address any feedback we get direct to all you lovely gamers. These will most likely be irregular but we'll be sure to give notice so you can send your questions in.
Well, I hope you're all having fun bagging all that illicit cargo, running contraband between systems and killing aliens to order - and remember we want your feedback here and your ratings on the Xbox Dashboard!
