Ugh, I hate it when this happens. I'm stuck trying to write the menu background music for BBXE at the moment and it's not going well. The current test build has 3 full tunes in it (I think one or two more will do nicely) and 8 levels, new splash video and more new flicks for the 1-player and tutorial menu items so I guess progress isn't that bad, but I've kind of hit that patch of dead, becalmed water where I'm not really coding, I'm screwing about with content. While that can be fun, it's also pretty tough for a hack like me and I'm itching to get through the job and on to the next game. However control and discipline is the order of the day - all the hard work of the last few weeks would be wasted if I put junky content or levels in so I've got to get it right. And with the FIFA 2010 World Cup in South Africa 2k10 USA UEFA FA.COM starting tomorrow I suspect my time will be in even shorter supply ;0)
Plus, the fact that I'm once again starting to think "what's next" isn't helping me keep my focus. According to the hardly-voted-on poll that's running on the site, an MMO(ish) version of Space Pirates is what people want, but as I've said before that'd take a lot more time than I'm willing to give to one title before we make a top-5 game so unless BBXE does REALLY well, it's not really on the cards. The current craze for Avatar games makes me want to write a really, really good one, I still want to write a platformer at some point, and I have a little idea for a LIVE-oriented "boys night in" game featuring poker, pool, darts, blackjack and some other "little" games which party members can duck in and out of. There aren't any poker tourney games around on consoles so it would be nice to do something about that, but my development costs increase dramatically for network-oriented games so I'll have to chew that over some more.
Anyway, I'd better have another go at writing this bloody menu music...
