  • How do you start out as an indie developer? Well, in our case Mike spotted that Microsoft had released some tools which allow devs to write C# code which runs on the Xbox 360.  He wrote an early version of Space Pirates before switching to Carrum, which was our first release.  You also need very very high standards, be self-critical, incredibly patient, and willing to work 18 hours a day without any promise of sucess.
  • Are you looking for programmers? No, we're not at the moment.  Things might change in the future, but right now we don't have a) the workload or b) the money to employ other programmers, designers, musicians or whatever.  Mike and Charlotta do it all!
  • Can I see your source code? No.  Indie does NOT mean open source, and we're a business like any other game studio.  Go ask Turn 10 if you can see the source for Forza 3.
  • What tools do you use to make your graphics/models/music? Charlotta uses Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for all the 2D assets, and SketchUp for basic 3D models and concept design.  Mike uses Blender for models, Gimp for 2D textures, Cubase for music and SFX.  We also have some nice gear in the studio, including a home-built theremin.
  • I've got a great idea for a game... Have you now?  Well, go write it.  Don't get us wrong - we love good ideas.  But the complications presented by someone "giving away" an idea if that idea turns out to be a massive hit are a bit much for us.  Honestly, C# is easy to learn.  Pop over to the XNA website and join in.
  • How long does it take to finish a game? Ages.  Ages and ages.  No it's not really that bad.  You can probably get a simple puzzle game done in about 2 months.  Carrum took 5 months to write, and a further 2 weeks post release for an update.  Space Pirates looks like it's going to take 5 months too.  The more you do the quicker they get because a) you become a better programmer and designer and b) you get to know what you need to do to get to release.
